City residents welcome improved power supply

HARARE residents have welcomed the stable supply of power in several suburbs.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) upgraded the Hwange Power Station, which has led to this development.

Residents expressed joy saying it reduces the costs they were incurring in using alternative sources.

Natasha Kahari of Mufakose hailed the improvement in power supply, saying outages now hardly last more than an hour.

This has reduced her family’s dependency on gas, which is expensive in winter.

“For the past two weeks, the electricity supply has been stable.

“We hardly spend an hour without power.

“I cannot remember when we last put on our generator.

“Even when power goes, it hardly lasts more than 20 minutes.

“Electricity is cheaper than buying the gas that we were using daily.

“Gas is expensive in winter and if constant power supply could be sustained, it would be good for development in the country,” said Kahari.

Another resident, Tsitsi Dowani, a tailor, said that they hardly got their work done on time due to the shortage of power.

“We always had a lot of work to do because of the poor power supply.

“We hardly got the job done on time due to the shortage of power.

“This drastically affected our daily income.

“The power cuts also caused friction between us and the customers,” she said.

Alerta Mutiro, of Mabvuku, also welcomed this development and hopes it could be sustained.
