CLEAN and Green Zimbabwe, Communities Making a Difference, recently held a clean-up in Borrowdale, starting at Pomona Shopping Centre.
Mrs Sharon Hook from Clean and Green Zimbabwe, Communities Making a Difference, said 25 volunteers and other stakeholders participated in the cleanup.
“Today (Friday last week), we have come together because the national cleanup for this month fell on the 3rd (of April), which was Good Friday, so we have pushed it to after the Easter weekend,” she said.
“So we have been emptying dust bins, cleaning the drainage of any litter and bagging it. Now we have Geo Pomona on board, which is wonderful, they cleaned Green Close.
“We have been part of the national cleanup since the launch, so every first Friday of the month, we clean with everybody across our nation, and we organise cleanups in communities that need cleaning or who ask us to clean.
“And we go to the communities with bags, gloves, refreshments and we get people from that community interested in their own community to make a difference.”
Mary Wazara from The Recycling Lady and chair of the Association of Zimbabwean Recyclers said, “To complement the efforts of the President (Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa)and to also support the initiative of our First Lady (Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa), the environment patron, we have also come to partner in this cleanup, and as a Rotarian as well, April is where we celebrate and look after the environment as Rotarians.”
