A SUDDEN cold spell sweeping parts of Zimbabwe is a result of the country’s transition from winter to summer, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said.
Temperatures began dropping sharply last Friday following strong winds and rains in several parts of the country, with some areas experiencing cloudy conditions, light drizzle and thunderstorms.
MSD deputy director for public weather services Mr Isaac Masawana said Zimbabwe had not yet fully entered summer, with the current weather conditions being part of the transitional period.
“We are still transitioning from winter to summer, we are not yet in summer. We are in the transitional period, so the conditions being experienced have nothing to do with whether we are in winter or summer,” he said.
