STAND-UP comedian Patrick Zindoga has revealed he attempted suicide last year as he battled mental health challenges.
Zindoga credited his church and community for supporting him through the difficult period.
He said he was going public about th experience to help raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues in Zimbabwe.
Zindoga described going down a dark path when he attempted suicide.
“Last November, I went through a dark time and even attempted to take my own life.
“Even now, people from my church and community don’t know about this. I feel so ashamed of it.
“Back then, Tanya Alex was the first person to get me back into comedy, she helped me by hiring me when no one else could. So this show is for them,” he said.
As a way to move away from his trauma, Zindoga will give back to his community at the Mufombi Unchained Xmas Special, a festival that will celebrate talent and his community.
Set for next week, Mufombi Unchained is a comedy and music show featuring local talent, including Zindoga, which aims to tackle faith and mental health issues with humour.
“This show is very personal to me, and I don’t want it to be solely about individual artists, but rather have an impact of charity and giving back.
“Mufombi Unchained will showcase Mufakose’s most promising artists, like Brisco, who has been making waves in Afro music.
“All the artists here are doing well, and they will collaborate to make it a unified comedy show.”
