TWO years ago, an American barber shop, Mug Shoppe, listed the celebrities it claimed had the craziest hair styles in the world.
In its blog, the shop noted that fashion and trends have always played a significant role in the lives of celebrities— from their extravagant outfits to their bold make-up choices.
And, one area, where they often showcase their creativity is in their hairstyles and the blog explored “some of the wildest and most outrageous celebrity hairstyles that have left us amazed, perplexed, and sometimes even inspired.”
Lady Gaga’s Hair Bow was named number one on the list.
“When it comes to eccentricity, Lady Gaga takes the crown. The pop icon has donned numerous unique hairstyles throughout her career, but one that stands out is the hair bow.
“At the 2010 Grammy Awards, Gaga sported a platinum blonde updo fashioned into a massive hair bow on top of her head.”
Miley Cyrus’s Undercut, which was a transition from her sweet Disney image to a rebellious and edgy style, came in at number two.
“One of her most daring hairstyles was the undercut, where she shaved the sides and back of her head, leaving a longer section on top.”
Nicki Minaj’s Technicolor Wigs, was listed at number three, Dennis Rodman’s Rainbow Hair at number four and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust Red Mullet was at number five.
The blog concluded that whether these celebrities inspire us or leave us bewildered, they remind us that fashion is a form of art, and sometimes, going against the norm can lead to the most unforgettable looks. Alick Macheso’s latest hairstyle, which he unveiled at a show at the weekend, might not have made this list but it has sent the country into an interesting conversation.
This was a daring move by Macheso.
We have a number of people who say that he should just have retained his conservative hairstyle rather than go for something so loud, which is associated with young men, most of whom were born after the turn of the millennium.
We wouldn’t have seen this huge reaction and deep conversation if, let’s say, this hairstyle was unveiled by Nutty O.
What has made it trend is that Macheso has made his name as a simple man, no crazy hairstyles and stuff, with the legend dumping the perm which he used to display in the early days of his adventure. Just being an ordinary fellow, just like the guy next door, has made Macheso a man we love because when we see him he reminds us of who we are.
We feel that at this stage of his career, Macheso probably doesn’t need such fancy hairstyles.
He just needs to remain the humble Baba Shero we have known all along.
After all, his music has always been doing the talking for him and no crazy hairstyle can do what his music has done.
