DEMBARE UNBEATEN IN EIGHT MONTHS

DYNAMOS are on an impressive unbeaten run in the Castle Lager Premiership, stretching over EIGHT months.

Incredibly, if DeMbare avoid defeat in the next four months, they will compete a YEAR without losing a league match.

This is quite ironic when one considers that the Glamour Boys were one of the worst teams last season and battled relegation.

They only survived the chop on the final day of the season.

The arrival of Kelvin Kaindu as their coach, which was quite a gamble given the way he had left Highlanders, changed everything for DeMbare.

Not only did they survive the chop, which was the main mandate for Kaindu and his backroom staff, but they also went on to win the Chibuku Super Cup.

Kaindu left the club at the end of the season, knowing that he had done enough for a reunion in the future if fate demands, but the league’s unbeaten run has not been halted.

Two games into the new season, the Glamour Boys are yet to taste defeat after winning their first game, against TelOne at Ascot, and then twice fighting back from behind to force a draw against Highlanders.

Kaindu, whose new employers Hardrock have also picked four out of a possible six points, is also unbeaten in the league in the last eight months.

DeMbare’s fairytale run, which came at the right time when they faced the real possibility of being relegated, started with a 1-0 win over MWOS at Rufaro on August 2, last year.

A few days earlier, the Glamour Boys had crashed to a depressing 0-3 defeat at the hands of Chicken Inn at Barbourfields on July 27.

That result made many analysts believe that Dynamos were going down into Division One, for the first time in the six decades they have been part of the top-flight league.

But, it turned out to be their last loss in the league. In the 13 league matches they have played since their win over MWOS, Dynamos have won seven and drawn six.

They only failed to score twice and, in both matches, they were at Rufaro when they drew 0-0 against Triangle and a similar scoreline against FC Platinum.

This means that a club, which had scored only two goals by the time they reached the halfway campaign of the first half of the season, have scored in each of the 11 of their last 13 league games.

It’s been such a stunning turnaround.

This probably explains why DeMbare are the top scoring team in the first two games of the new season, averaging two goals per game.

They have only conceded more than one goal in two of those 13 games – against Scottland last year and against Bosso at Rufaro on Sunday.

The two goals against the champions came in the Game Of The Season, which ended in a five-goal thriller at the spiritual home of domestic football.

Denver Mukamba scored a superb winner, volleying the ball into the top corner with an instinctive shot, as the Glamour Boys found a way to beat the would-be champions.

It’s a measure of how solid Kaindu’s team were defensively during that dream run that only the star-studded Scotts were able to score more than one league goal against them.

There were five goals, when the two clubs met again in the Castle Challenge Cup at Rufaro, although the Scotts scored all the goals this time around.

The other team to score more than one goal for them was Bosso in that four-goal thriller at Rufaro.

DeMbare’s next assignment is against Bulawayo Chiefs, who have started their campaign in style, by picking four points in their first two games.
