ALL is in place for the 2025 ZIFA Inter Regional Champion of Champions Cup at Baghdad Stadium in Kwekwe, where four ambitious Division One winners will fight for early bragging rights this weekend.

The two-day contest runs tomorrow and Sunday and serves as the final act of the domestic football calendar.

The event is hosted by the Southern Region, although the matches will take place in the mining city. Central Region champions Hardrock step onto familiar turf and will see this as a chance to show their supporters they belong in the Premier Soccer League.

They line up against Northern Region winners Agama, Southern Region representatives Bulawayo Chiefs, and Eastern Region champions FC Hunters.

Central Region chairperson Patrick Hill said bringing the tournament back to his area for a second straight year is something they value.

“As a region we are so excited to be having the four teams that won promotion into the Premier Soccer League from the four regional leagues coming back to our region,” he said.

He said the Southern Region chose to stage the competition in Kwekwe and the Central Region didn’t hesitate to take it on.

“This season the tournament is being hosted by the Southern Region, however, they requested to stage the event in our region, and we gladly accepted the offer.

“This is a massive opportunity for the clubs to test themselves against each other before they embark on the much difficult task in the top flight. For coaches it’s the right platform to scout for talent as well as to sharpen themselves. We want to encourage football fans from around to come and be part of this event as we put a curtain on our football season in the country.”

Last year’s edition was held at Bata Stadium in Gweru, where ZPC Hwange edged Triangle 2-1 to lift the title.

Agama have arrived in Kwekwe with clear intent, and their secretary general Entrodge Usayi said the team wants to finish the season with another trophy.

“Each time we play we do so with a lot of determination, and this cup is no different,” said Usayi.

“We are thoroughly preparing for this Cup because we want to end the season on a high note with another piece of silverware in our cabinet.”
