ORGANISERS of Doek & Slay all-women parties have announced a series of changes and improvements ahead of their next edition.
This follows feedback from their patrons.
Two weeks ago, they introduced a new fashion theme, which was not received well by their patrons.
The all-women’s party had initially unveiled a cowgirl-inspired dress code, a move that sparked mixed reactions and backlash from some of its patrons.
Following the feedback, the organisers have now revised the theme to a stylish denim-on-denim dress code.
Organisers said the event’s success has always been driven by the women who attend, adding that audience feedback continues to play a key role in shaping future editions.
“We’ve put together some gorgeous denim-on-denim looks for you to save, screenshot, and recreate.
“For those of you still getting called out for the cowgirl style, go ahead and lean into it.
“Add a cowgirl touch to your denim-on-denim and make the look uniquely yours.”
Doek & Slay will also see the return of one of its most requested attractions – photobooths.
The organisers revealed that upgraded and more interactive photobooth experiences will be introduced, allowing guests to capture memorable moments throughout the day.
To improve visibility, and ensure a more inclusive experience, Doek & Slay has also revised its venue layout. Front-row tents, which previously obstructed the view of some patrons, will no longer be permitted near the stage.
Instead, tents will now be positioned at the back of the venue to ensure all guests have a clear view of performances and activities.
The organisers also addressed growing calls from patrons for international entertainment.
For the August Harare edition, ShaSha will headline alongside Alick Macheso, Freeman, EXQ, Baba Harare, Nisha Ts and InTotal Band.
While reaffirming their commitment to supporting local talent, organisers acknowledged increasing demand for regional and continental performers.
They noted that scheduling challenges have made it difficult to secure suitable international acts for the August event.
However, they pledged that a major African music icon will headline the Mega & Doek and Slay event. The organisers said the US$10 early-bird tickets will not be available for the August edition.
They said the decision was necessary to maintain high production standards, enhance security, and fund the new experiences being introduced.
“We have invested heavily in making this event unforgettable, and this adjustment ensures we do not compromise on the quality our audience deserves,” the organisers said.
Last month, the Bulawayo edition was postponed due to unexpected challenges.
Nkosazana Daughter, who was set to headline the all-women’s party alongside the Travellers Band, was not available on the scheduled date.
Due to her absence, the organisers said they were compelled to cancel the show in order to secure a stronger line-up by engaging other musicians.
