DOLLY Parton’s first posthumous song has been released just two weeks after the star’s death.
The country music icon died on August 25 aged 80.
But as the world continues to mourn her passing, a new tune featuring the legend has been released.
The late star had contributed to “Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers”, a tribute album for The Stanley Brothers.
The bluegrass duo were posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year and a new album celebrating their success is set for release next month.
It features Dolly who recorded “Bound to Ride”.
The traditional song was recorded by Dolly in 2022 ready for the album. The tune was a big success for The Stanley Brothers in 1964.
The same year the song was recorded, she said she was purposely recording material that could be used long after she was gone.
“There’s enough stuff to go on forever with my music, to do compilation albums, to do new and original stuff,” Parton said.
“I am purposely trying to put songs down for that very purpose, to have a click track and my vocals where any arrangement could be done. So, I think ahead.”
Garry West, bassist and owner of Compass Records, the company behind “Where the Soul Never Dies”, told Rolling Stone the tune is “full Dolly”.
He told the publication: “We did not know what we would get back and she really did over-deliver.
“We were shocked. We couldn’t have gotten anything better.”
The news comes days after it was confirmed Dolly had landed three top 10 songs in the United Kingdom (UK) charts after dying — including her highest-charting single ever.
Her hit “9 To 5” became Dolly’s best-performing UK track reaching number five.
“Jolene” also reached an all-time high at number six while “Islands in the Stream”, the singer’s 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers, was number nine. “Jolene” originally peaked at number seven in 1976 as did “Islands in the Stream” in 1984.
Meanwhile, “9 To 5”, written for the comedy film of the same name, peaked at number 2 last week. This eclipsed its previous best of number 47.
The Queen of Country’s death rocked the world last month.
She had kept her cancer diagnosis out of the public eye and even held it back from some of her family prior to her death.

Angelina Jolie (51) has addressed the close bond she shares with her children following news that several of them have decided to drop Brad Pitt’s surname from their names.
The actress and her former husband, Brad (62), welcomed daughter Shiloh (20), as well as twins Knox and Vivienne (18) before adopting Maddox (25), Pax (22) and Zahara (21).
However, in recent years, the children have distanced themselves from the Hollywood actor. Most of them have filed legal paperwork to drop “Pitt” from their last names, with Vivienne being the latest to do so.
In a recent interview, Angelina offered insight into her parenting, stating that her children “know all sides” of her and know her “pretty well”.
She reflected on Pax and Maddox working as assistant directors on her films, saying, “Obviously, it is nice for me to be around them, but I am just Mum, wanting to be around her family.”
The “Maleficent” actress added that her children are “definitely individuals”, which makes her “very proud”.
“I think one of the most important things is to basically not get in their way,” she said.
“As a parent, you try to do many things, but you also try not to get in the way of this human being who has a life separate from yours and so much potential in their own mind. You want to make sure that you support them.”
This comes weeks after Vivienne published a legal notice declaring her intention to drop “Pitt” from her surname and legally change her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.
Publishing such a notice in a local newspaper is standard procedure when requesting a legal name change to allow for court approval.
The notice ran in The Los Angeles Journal once a week for four weeks between July and August.
If no objections are filed before the final hearing on November 2, a judge will officially approve the change.
In her filing, Vivienne cited “personal reasons” for the change. She previously used the name Vivienne Jolie on the playbill for her 2024 Broadway production of “The Outsiders”.
Other siblings have taken similar steps.
Her brother, Knox, used the name Jolie on his diploma from Fusion Academy, while Zahara and Maddox also published notices in The Los Angeles Journal. During her university commencement in May, Zahara was introduced as Zahara Marley Jolie.
Shiloh petitioned to legally change her name in 2024 after turning 18. At the time, her legal representative, Peter Levine, stated that she had “made an independent and significant decision following painful events”.
Pax has not formally changed his name, though his relationship with Brad remains strained.
Brad and Angelina began dating in 2004 and married a decade later. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 following allegations of abuse, which Pitt has strongly denied.
The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services subsequently cleared him of any wrongdoing. Representatives for Brad Pitt have been approached for comment. — Wires
