A 39-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo domestic worker has been sentenced to an effective 12 months in prison for indecently assaulting his employer’s four-year-old daughter.
The accused, who cannot be named to protect the victim, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a charge of indecent assault by Western Commonage regional magistrate, Mr Lungile Ncube.
Sentencing him, Mr Ncube said the accused had violated the trust placed in him by his employer.
“You were entrusted with the care of the child but you decided to abuse her. Accordingly, you are sentenced to 12 months in prison without an option of a fine,” said Mr Ncube.

Prosecuting, Ms Christina Manyika told the court that the offence occurred on October 15 at around 3PM.
“On that day, the accused person was hired by the victim’s mother to do part-time work at her farm. The accused later went to a nearby Jojo tank to drink water together with the victim,” she said.
The court heard that the accused then took the child to his room, placed her on his bed and began caressing and kissing her.
“The complainant’s mother, who was still in the garden, noticed the delay in her daughter’s return from the Jojo tank. She then started searching for her and entered the farm workers’ spare bedroom, where she found her daughter and the accused on his bed, covered with a blanket,” said Ms Manyika.
