Dr Musa Mthombeni shuts down cheating allegations

Following cheating allegations circulating on X, Dr Musa Mthombeni has issued a response.

The rumours stem from a gossip account that shared a screenshot of a DM from an anonymous source.

In the message, the source alleged that he had cheated on his wife, Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni, during a boys’ trip to Thailand in December 2025.

The post claimed: “Serious allegations against Dr Musa Mthombeni cheating on his wife, Miss South Africa 2015 Liesl Laurie Mthombeni, are being made. It is alleged that Musa had a thing with a mysterious woman during his December Thailand boys trip.”

From there, the rumour mill picked up speed. Other gossip and commentary accounts added to the claims, with some suggesting there was “trouble in paradise” between the couple. One post even referenced an alleged encounter in Phuket, providing a picture showing Musa talking to an unidentified woman.

The rumour comes after one X user questioned why the couple had been posting less of their usual loved-up content.  Others quickly defended the couple, pointing out that they had recently been seen together and dismissing the claims as baseless.

Musa eventually addressed the situation himself, brushing off the allegations. “Aowa Bathong. Mina futhi! What fresh lie is it today?” he wrote. He later responded to a follower who advised him to ignore posts from accounts chasing engagement. “Saphela Nkosi yam. Every time I see something controversial on the timeline, I check for a blue tick. Once I see it, I know it’s hunger tweeting,” he said.

His response made it clear that he views the claims as nothing more than social media noise. However, he also gave a stern warning to those who keep spreading misinformation, hiding behind the word “allegedly”.

“One day le ‘ALLEGEDLY’ yenu is gonna end in ‘PUNITIVE COSTS,’” he wrote.

He added: “If you hear anything about me that isn’t about me loving my baby girl, school, career, family, or generally enjoying life, it’s a lie!”

The couple, who got married in 2021, have built a strong public image over the years, often sharing glimpses of their relationship online. — IOL
