A 33-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man allegedly blew US$33 that he had been sent to buy beer with, at a betting shop.
Simbarashe Watsikenyere of Entumbane suburb pleaded guilty to theft before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.

The court heard he had been sent to buy five crates of Chibuku beer.
Instead of shopping, he used the cash for soccer betting.

The court initially sentenced him to six months in prison, but three months were suspended on condition he stays out of trouble for five years.

The remaining three months were further suspended on condition he completes 105 hours of community service at Entumbane High School.

Prosecutor, Catherine Kuzu told the court the incident happened on 8 February at around 11:30am.
The complainant, Sikholiwe Kaparadza (40), gave Watsikenyere the money for beer, but he “converted” it to his own use.

Attempts to recover the beer failed, but the US$33 was eventually returned.
