PRIMARY and Secondary Education Minister Dr Torerayi Moyo has been honoured for his contribution to Zimbabwe’s education sector after receiving the Visionary Leadership Sustainability Excellence in Education Leadership Award at the Global Business Achievers Network (GBAN) Awards held in Harare last night.
Dr Moyo was named the platinum winner in the category at a ceremony presided over by Vice President Rtd Col Kembo Mohadi and attended by senior Government officials, business leaders and professionals from various sectors.
The award was presented to Dr Moyo by GBAN chief executive officer Mr Tendesai Mushamba, who said the organisation’s recognition was based on merit, measurable performance and impact.
Dr Moyo said he was grateful for the honour, describing the recognition as a meaningful acknowledgement of his work in the education sector.
“It means a lot to me to be recognised this way. I am grateful for this honour,” said Dr Moyo.
Mr Mushamba said GBAN was established to create a platform for recognising individuals and institutions whose leadership, innovation and service were contributing to national development.
“This evening is not simply an awards ceremony — it is a celebration of excellence, resilience, leadership and national contribution,” he said.
He said the awards were guided by a transparent evaluation process focusing on performance, ethical leadership, innovation, governance and community impact.
“GBAN recognition is earned. Our awards process is guided by transparency, structured evaluation, measurable performance, ethical leadership, innovation, governance and community impact,” said Mr Mushamba.
“This is not recognition by association. It is recognition by merit.”
Mr Mushamba said leaders and institutions receiving recognition should view the awards as motivation to continue improving and making a difference.
“Recognition is not the destination — it is motivation. Motivation to grow further, motivation to innovate boldly, motivation to lead ethically,” he said.
Other Government officials recognised at the awards included Dr Takudzwa C. Zvobgo, Deputy Director in the Office of the President and Cabinet’s Monitoring and Evaluation unit, who received the Corporate Governance Leadership Excellence Award.
The GBAN chief executive officer said the award recipients represented individuals and organisations whose efforts were helping strengthen Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
“Your innovation, resilience, integrity and measurable impact are laying the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous Zimbabwe,” he said.
