An 18‑year‑old woman from Epworth has appeared in court on allegations of aggravated indecent assault involving a 16‑year‑old girl, whom she allegedly deceived by pretending to be a man.

Shamiso Melinda Sigara, of Overspill in Epworth, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Jessie Kufa.

According to the State, Sigara is alleged to have approached the complainant in November last year, professed love, and presented herself as male.

The minor is said to have accepted the proposal.

Prosecutors allege that on 12 February 2026, Sigara arranged for the complainant to move into her home so the two could live together as husband and wife.

The court heard that the matter was reported to the police after the complainant confided in her mother the following day, suspecting that Sigara was, in fact, a woman.

Sigara was remanded in custody pending consideration of her bail application.

Mr Oscar Madhume appeared for the State.
