THE European Union yesterday announced the sudden and unexpected death of Ms Katrin Hagemann, Ambassador of the European Union to Zimbabwe, who passed away on Thursday.
In a statement released yesterday, the EU delegation said it was “with deep sadness” that it confirmed her death, extending condolences to her family, loved ones, colleagues and all those mourning the loss.
The EU said it would make no further comments at this time, citing the family’s privacy during the difficult period.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, colleagues and all those who mourn this profound loss. In respect for the privacy of the family at this difficult time, there will be no further comments at this time,” said the EU.
A Book of Condolences will be opened to the public from Monday, September 7 to Thursday, September 10 at the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr Nick Mangwana said news of Ambassador Hagemann’s death had come as a shock.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of H.E. Katrin Hagemann, Head of the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
“Accredited just last December, she arrived with renewed commitment, continuing the positive trajectory of strengthening and maturing Zimbabwe-EU relations.
“She was a gracious diplomat and sincere partner. Our heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, the diplomatic community and the EU. May she rest in peace,” he wrote on his official X handle.
