The European Union has extended its arms embargo on Zimbabwe by a further year.
The announcement came out on Tuesday after the EU concluded its annual review of the sanctions on Zimbabwe.
“As a result of it (annual review), the Council has decided to extend the arms embargo for one year, until 20 February 2027, while lifting all provisions related to the possibility of imposing a travel ban and asset freeze.
“The EU remains constructively engaged with Zimbabwe and looks forward to deepening the bilateral relations across a broad range of areas of mutual interest, including on trade and investment.
“The EU will continue to monitor the effectiveness of these measures in light of any future developments,” reads a statement from the EU.
On February 15, 2011, the EU imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe, and they have been renewed and adjusted over the years.
That decision replaced the legal framework for sanctions already in place since February 18, 2002, imposed following the implementation of the successful and irreversible Land Reform Programme.
