THE Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League believe they are stepping into a new phase.
The league wrapped up their season at Gwanzura on Saturday where Herentals Queens lifted their fourth straight tit.
The moment felt bigger than a routine trophy handover.
The champions arrived smartly dressed, the presentation ran smoothly, and the new executive walked away convinced the league can finally grow into the product it should be.
ZWPSL chairperson Chido Chizondo said the league was taking deliberate steps to reshape how women’s football is viewed and supported.
“This trophy presentation marks the beginning of a new direction for the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League,” she said.
“It’s a small but critical step to show Zimbabwe and the world that our league is changing.”
She said the executive was fully aware that meaningful transformation needs consistency and credibility.
“Our transformation is a work in progress. For people and sponsors to be attracted to us, they must believe in our capabilities.”
Chizondo believes the women’s game can draw their own partners if given room to grow.
“Celebrating our achievements is a major step towards proving what these women are capable of and encouraging sponsors to come on board,” she said.
“We are very thankful for what Utano has done for our league.
“Our hope is that more people will see their efforts and be moved to support the girls, who are highly competitive and deserve that backing.”
She said moments like Saturday’s send a message to players that their efforts matter.
“Opportunities and presentations like this will motivate the girls immensely, giving them the faith to continue pushing and become winners at the end of every season.”
Chizondo also confirmed the relegation structure will shift following the withdrawal of Maningi Queens.
“This season, the relegation system has been adjusted.
“Because one team has dropped off, we will be relegating three teams and promoting four from the lower division.”
