EX’S STAR BOLD CLAIM

LONDON. Ex-Arsenal midfielder Alex Song says he would start for Mikel Arteta’s  current Premier League-leading crop of stars.

The 38-year-old former defensive midfielder spent seven years with the Gunners as a defensive midfielder.

And even though Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are dominating in the middle of the pitch for Arsenal, Song thinks the prime version of himself would play over one of them.

In an interview with ESPN Africa, the presenter said: “Alex Song would start for these clubs”, and proceeded to list some giants of the world game.

The former Cameroon international backed himself, saying ‘‘yes’’ to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. When he was asked about Arsenal, he replied: “Yes, Gunners for life! Yes.”

Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were all answered in the affirmative before the former Arsenal man named the only side he would not play for.

‘‘No. I will never play for Tottenham. Never! It will never happen!’’

Song joined Arsenal from Bastia in France back in 2005 for £1million and played 204 games for the club under Arsene Wenger.  Initially he was a box-to-box midfielder before transitioning into more of an orthodox number six. – Mailonline
