THE trial of Trevor Dongo’s girlfriend and her friend, who are accused of allegedly burning his property in his rented apartment, did not get underway yesterday as scheduled.
His girlfriend, Tanaka Mafukidze (24), and her friend, Prudent Chipo Musimike (25), appeared before Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi.
The trial couldn’t start because Musimuke had an outstanding warrant of arrest after defaulting court on the previous hearing.
The warrant of arrest was, however, cancelled.
Trial is now set to start on July 30. The incident occurred in March.
It is alleged that on March 21, an apartment at 9 Residell Flat in Harare, belonging to Rosemary Danda, caught fire.
Danda was alerted by her brother and, upon arrival, observed the flat burning and two seemingly drunk women at the scene.
Trevor is Danda’s tenant.
It was established that on the day of the incident, Trevor was with his girlfriend, Tanaka, who had been out for lunch with her friend, Prudent.
Trevor invited Tanaka to his flat and she arrived with Prudent.
A disagreement arose between Trevor and Tanaka regarding Prudent’s presence.
Trevor then left to pick up a friend and, while he was gone, Tanaka and Prudent continued to argue and, in the process, set the house on fire.
When Trevor returned, he found his property burning.
The estimated value of the damaged property is US$21,178.00.
