ZANU PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa has called on all citizens to intensify the fight against drug and substance abuse among youths.
Speaking on his behalf at Zone 3, Kambuzuma 2 Hall, Zanu PF Harare provincial secretary for health Cde Walter Makotore appealed to communities, families and the business sector to play an active role in combating the growing scourge.
“As communities, we cannot relax while the Government is fighting alone,” said Cde Makotore.
“Let’s pool resources together to fight the menace. We need to report those who are supplying the drugs to our youths. It is the duty of every citizen to intensify the fight against drugs and substances.”
Drug and substance abuse has emerged as one of the country’s most pressing public health and socio-economic challenges, particularly among young people.
Cde Masimirembwa encouraged the youths to seek guidance from party structures on accessing empowerment opportunities and programmes.
He commended businessman and philanthropist Dr Justice Mhishi for initiating youths empowerment projects and donating wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in Harare.
Dr Mhishi donated more than 10 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in Kambuzuma, with additional wheelchairs expected to be delivered next week.
The donation is expected to improve mobility, restore dignity and independence and promote greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in community life.
Assistive devices such as wheelchairs play a critical role in enabling equal access to education, employment and other social and economic opportunities.
Dr Mhishi said the initiative was inspired by President Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.
He urged the people to unite in pursuit of Vision 2030. He commended First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa for her commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, saying her example continued to inspire citizens to serve others with compassion.
Dr Mhishi pledged to establish a rehabilitation centre in Kambuzuma as part of efforts to combat drug and substance abuse.
He said plans were also underway to roll out empowerment projects in the area to improve opportunities for youths and women.
