WITH the country still celebrating International Women’s Month, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa has been commended for her leading role in advancing women empowerment, community development and upliftment of vulnerable groups.
This was said by Masvingo Province’s Proportional Representative in the National Assembly, Cde Auxcillia Dhanzi, while moving a point of national interest for the House to recognise the importance of the International Women’s Month and International Women’s Day, which fell on March 8 under the theme, “Give to Gain.”
She said the theme carried a profound message.
“When we give, we gain. Giving is not subtraction, but it is multiplication. When women thrive, families prosper. When women lead, institutions strengthen. When girls are educated and empowered, nations rise.
“The Give-to-Gain campaign calls upon individuals, institutions, communities and governments to give, whether through resources, opportunities, protection, feasibility, training, mentoring, equal pay or justice, so that we may gain sustainable, equality and inclusive development.
“In our own national context, we are fortunate to have strong advocates for women’s empowerment under the leadership and example of Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, whose commitment to women’s economic empowerment, health awareness, community development and protection of vulnerable groups continues to inspire national action,” Cde Dhanzi said.
The First Lady has also received global recognition for her philanthropic work, which has benefited the less privileged in various communities.
Cde Dhanzi also commended women in various leadership positions in Parliament, including Senate president Cde Mabel Chinomona, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Cde Tsitsi Gezi and the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Barbara Rwodzi.
“Through their leadership, guidance and resilience, we were indeed benefiting immensely in advancing women’s representation, mentorship and empowerment within our governance structures. Their presence in these high offices is not symbolic. It is transformative in line with the spirit of leadership. Giving must be deliberate and structured.
“We must give access to land and productive assets. Give fair and equal economic opportunities. Give protection against gender-based violence.
“Give funding and visibility to women-led enterprises. Give young people safe and uninterrupted access to education. Give space for women’s voices in leadership and decision-making,” she said.
