FOR THE LOVE OF BEER ! Son gets 9 years for selling dad’s cow for quick buck

A GOKWE man will spend the next nine years behind bars after stealing his father’s heifer and selling it for beer money.
Bhekimpilo Madzura 25, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), was convicted of stock theft after he trailed his father’s cattle to the grazing lands on 7 October 2025 and made off with one of the beasts.

Madzura’s brother spotted him at a local business centre driving the stolen heifer tied to a rope. Sensing something was off, the brother quickly tipped off their father, who wasted no time filing a police report.

Investigations led police to a neighbour who had innocently bought the stolen heifer for US$290. The animal, valued at US$380, was recovered and handed back to its rightful owner.

The NPAZ said: “Stock theft is a serious threat to rural livelihoods and food security. The NPAZ urges community members to report any suspicious activity to the police.”

The authority added that the sentence sends a clear message that livestock theft will not be tolerated, especially in areas where cattle represent the backbone of family wealth.
