AN apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

This could be the case with actress Natalie Makanaka Burutsa, who starred in Dave Guzha’s movie, ‘Wedding Night’.

Burutsa, who played the role of Chipo, the bride in ‘Wedding Night’, simply delivered and showed that she is way beyond her generation.

Her mother, Chipo Bizure, who rose to acclaim in Studio 263 as Eve, needs no introduction.

The 21-year-old was a protagonist in this play, which tackles serious matters including traditional marriages, African identity, courtship, and family fibre.

In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Burutsa said that the ‘Wedding Night’ film opened new doors for her.

“I was excited and nervous at the same time, because that was my first time acting alongside those icons like Baba Stephen Chigorombo, among others,” she recalled.

“My passion for acting started when I was still very young while in primary school. I can safely say I was around 12 years-old when I developed an interest in acting.

“I also learned quite a lot from my mother, who is also an actress and a good friend of mine.”

She firmly believes that she made the cut due to unity among the cast.

“I should also admit that it was hard to navigate that new role, since it was my first time taking part in such a major production.

“The cast made me feel at home and it was through teamwork that I made it.

“I worked with a team that helped me to regain my confidence.”

Being the youngest among the cast, Burutsa, who is studying International Relations and Diplomacy with a local university, has vowed to continue working hard.

“In my case, I am willing to continue learning and perfecting my craft. It was an amazing experience working with seasoned stars who have made it into the film and television industry.

“I also learn a lot from my mother, who happens to be my role model and popular actress, Malala.

“My vision is to grow and continue promoting African culture through film and acting. I have a passion for this calling, which came at a tender age,” Burutsa said.

The actress, who was also hailed by producer Guzha as a rare talent in the sector, said she would not be flattered by the rave reviews she has been receiving.

“I will continue working hard, and it’s my desire to continue working hard and surpass the levels that I have set for myself. I am ready to continue doing very well, and I am confident enough,” she said.

Guzha, who spoke glowing about the actress, believes she was destined for stardom.

“Natalie is a talented actress, and we enjoyed working with her,” Guzha said.

“For someone of her age to play that role as the protagonist was not easy, considering the critical issues that we tackled in the play.

“She is an intelligent girl, and I saw her when she was still young. Now that she is part of this cast, it makes me happy to be honest.”

The veteran theatre and film director revealed that she easily suited the role they gave her, and that they were convinced during rehearsals that she was the real deal.

“After rehearsals, she shocked many of us by delivering to the best of her abilities. Now that she has succeeded, we will keep pushing her to continue working hard,” Guzha said shortly before the film screening.

Chigorimbo also praised Burutsa for her amazing talent.

“I am one person who appreciates young talent, and in this case, I take her as my own daughter because I saw her growing up by the way. She is a special kid that we will cherish for years to come.”
