FRETS A MAN ON A MISSION

LIBERTY ‘Frets Donzvo’ Jeure is a man on a mission to be successful and to ensure that six-year-old son will not face the challenges which he dealt with as he was growing up.

The 29-year-old is a self-taught instrumentalist, comedian, singer and songwriter.

Frets revealed in an interview that his son, Limrone, serves as a powerful motivator for him.

He said he wants to ensure Limrone will have a better life.

“Growing up, I faced difficult challenges and I don’t want my son to go through what I went through, Limrone is like a reminder for me to keep pushing because I want to secure his future,’’ he said.

Frets’ musical journey began with playing marimba and it wasn’t until he met guitarist, Kudakwashe Maestro, in 2018 that he fell in love with playing the guitar.

The artist bought his own guitar and began teaching himself by downloading YouTube tutorials.

With the help of Maestro Frets could, in just two years, play a guitar in church.

“I was a marimba player till one day in 2018 when I met Maestro and I fell in love with what he did with the guitar and bought myself a guitar in 2019.

“I downloaded YouTube video tutorials and taught myself while I also got hellp from Maestro and, within two years, I could play in church,’’ he said.

The entertainer plays a number of instruments including drums and the keyboard.

He decided to consider music seriously last year when he released his first song ‘Messengers.’

He has now released four songs, including one he featured with Mbeu.

Frets said whenever he writes a song, he tries to entertain every generation and that is why he delivers Afro Fusion, jiti vibes and Afro Jazz.

“I do not have a specific genre, I deliver anything that shows that I’m Zimbabwean and that means Afro-Fusion, jiti vibes and Afro-Jazz, capturing all age groups,’’ he said.

“l think a lot of my opportunities came through skits and now I have huge social media platforms bringing easier publicity to my career.”

Frets does not have a sponsor and relies on his creativity and hard work to fund his musical career using money he earns from doing adverts and skits.
