The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has congratulated Gallo Record Company on its 100th anniversary, marking the milestone as a significant achievement for South Africa’s music industry.
Recognised as Africa’s oldest and largest independent record company, Gallo has spent a century discovering, developing and preserving artists whose music has helped shape South Africa’s cultural identity.
The company said its catalogue represents one of the richest collections of African music, documenting generations of artists while continuing to support emerging talent across the continent.
RiSA chief executive officer Nhlanhla Sibisi said Gallo’s centenary was a celebration not only of an iconic record company, but also of South Africa’s recording heritage.
“A century of Gallo Record Company is a century of South African music. Few institutions have contributed as profoundly to the growth, preservation and global recognition of our musical heritage as Gallo,” Sibisi said.
“Their catalogue tells the story of our people, our struggles, our celebrations and our evolution as a nation. On behalf of RiSA and the entire recording industry, we congratulate Gallo on this historic achievement and thank them for their unwavering commitment to African music and the artists whose legacies continue to inspire generations.”
RiSA said Gallo’s music catalogue spans legendary pioneers and contemporary artists, reflecting the evolution of South African and African music over the past century.
