THE wife of gospel singer Everton Mlalazi has praised the residents of Bulawayo for the reception they gave her husband during the Ekhaya Worship Festival.

Gamuchirai Mlalazi is also the manager of her husband who used the same occasion to celebrate his 43rd birthday.

Everton was born and raised in the City of Kings.

“Bulawayo is home and thank you for rallying behind my husband from day one.

“Bulawayo is the city that taught Everton to be the man he is.

“The good thing is he is passing it over to his children and, as we speak, there is going to be a tight competition in the house, with the little one, Nathan Ephraim, showing signs of being a musician.”

She added:

“This birthday is special to us because we are honouring Everton’s father and mother.

“It is different from other celebrations as you can see today from our dressing to the theme that it is all about Ekhaya- Homecoming and we are doing it old style.

“We have been doing the Ekhaya Worship Festival but I am very happy with this one.

“As you can see, me and my children are trying to learn the Ndebele language and to speak it fluently.

“Everton speaks fluently Ndebele.

“We can speak but as you know children speak their mother’s language.”

Asked what is the secret behind Everton’s continued success, Gamu said:

“We wake up every day by 3am and pray.

“The best part of this trick is that we connect with my in-laws who also join us in prayer.

“I personally give all the glory and honour to God, who continually guides us in the right direction,” she said.

The Mlalazis are members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Gamu scooped the Best Manager in Africa Award at the Christian Legendary and Impact Makers Awards (CLIMA) in Abuja, Nigeria.
