Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Emmanuel Matatu, has described national hero Major General (Retired) Herbert Chingono as a cadre who remained loyal to the values and ethos of the liberation struggle.

General Matatu said this during a full military parade held for the national hero at Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare today.

“Major General (Rtd) Chingono belonged to the dwindling class of officers who founded the Zimbabwe Defence Forces after participating in the liberation war.

“He remained loyal and patriotic to the values of the liberation struggle post-independence,” said General Matatu.

The funeral parade was attended by former Commander Defence Forces, General (Rtd) Valerio Sibanda and Commander Air Forces, Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede, among other senior officials.
