IT was supposed to be a night of fun, drinks and good vibes, but South African rapper Gigi Lamayne was left with a bitter hangover after her partying crew allegedly vanished, leaving her to settle a whopping R56 000 club bill!
The award-winning rapper, who has Zimbabwean roots in Nkayi, made the jaw-dropping revelation during an appearance on The Shady PHodcast, where she recounted how a night out turned into an expensive lesson about friendship.
According to Lamayne, the people she had been partying with disappeared when it was time to settle the bill, leaving her with no choice but to foot the hefty tab.
“I spent 56 000 by mistake. People ran away. And then I had to pay for the bill. I was so angry.
None of them are my friends anymore, by the way,” she said.
Clearly, the incident did not end with just a painful swipe of her bank card. Lamayne said the experience also came with a friendship clean-up, as those who allegedly ditched her are no longer part of her inner circle. But the R56 000 club drama was only one of several talking points during her podcast appearance.
The outspoken rapper also opened up about her career, relationships, feminism and the pressures of navigating fame in an industry largely dominated by men.
She had glowing words for fellow rapper Emtee, praising his musical abilities and reflecting on their working relationship.
Lamayne also weighed in on gender debates, touching on the perceptions and challenges women face in the entertainment industry.
On the relationship front, she spoke about her romance with rapper Reason, popularly known as Sizwe Alakine, appreciating how he publicly defended their relationship following controversial remarks directed at her.
