The Internet Society, in partnership with Solusi University, will tomorrow host a Global Encryption Day symposium at the university. The event aims to raise awareness and equip marginalised, minority, and women’s groups with practical knowledge of encryption and current trends in cybersecurity.
Symposium coordinator and ICT Manager at Solusi University, Mr Ntokozo Ncube, said the event targets populations most vulnerable in navigating the online space — including women in marginalised communities, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.
“Tomorrow’s symposium is specifically designed for the marginalised communities who need digital security the most,” said Mr Ncube.
“Women in these communities need to understand digital privacy tools to protect themselves and their families online. Persons with disabilities require accessible training to ensure digital security for all abilities. Senior citizens also need guidance to navigate digital security with confidence.”
The training will include hands-on workshops using encryption tools and cybersecurity practices tailored to community needs. Mr Ncube said the goal is to strengthen local capacity for ongoing digital security support.
The symposium comes towards the end of Cybersecurity Month and is expected to foster inclusivity, safety, and confidence in the digital space among communities that need it most.
