Gogo Chihera, Tongai Moyo’s Mother, Dies at 94

The Moyo family is mourning the death of Esther Mhurai Zengeya, popularly known as Gogo Chihera, the mother of sungura music icon Tongai Moyo, who has died at the age of 94.

Family spokesperson and grandson Obert Moyo confirmed that Gogo Chihera, born Esther Murai Zenge in 1932, passed away at her rural home in Zhombe, Sosembe, Village 6.

She had been battling asthma and complications affecting her legs

“Gogo had been unwell for some time. We are deeply saddened by her passing as she was a pillar of strength in our family and community,” said Obert Moyo.

Mourners are gathered in Zhombe, with burial arrangements to be announced.
