GOSPEL musician Reverend Togarepi Chivaviro says he feels Gokwe resembles the Biblical Bethlehem of Judea.
The Ebenezer hit-maker was born and bred in Gokwe.
He says he intends to use his influence as a musician to change misconceptions about his hometown by launching his 22nd album in Gokwe.
He feels he inspires a lot of young people in the town.
He has named the six track album, ‘Nyasha DzeGokwe,’ and it is due for release on August 8 at Leisure Lounge, Gokwe Centre.
“When I launched my 21st album, I made a promise to take my next album to my hometown in Gokwe.
“Tinonzwa vanhu vakawanda vachiwanzira Gokwe kuti ndekwevaroyi vamwe vachiti hakuna vanhu vakadzidza saka tati tigadzirise tiudze vanhu pamusoro penyasha dzinobva Gokwe.
“This is the first time any artist has ever launched an album in Gokwe.
“I am doing this to inspire many generations and present a better picture of our town.
“I am also doing this to show people the good part of Gokwe, to promote our town and rural communities, telling people our stories.
“This is for Gokwe people to also show that kune nyasha dzinosimudza munhu kubva munzvimbo dzakazvidzika kumugadzika nemachinda and I am a testimony of that,” said Chivaviro.
He said he is working with responsible authorities to host an impactful event.
“We are partnering with all relevant authorities, including the chief, Ministry of Education, Health, the Town Council and business people to come up with this event to promote Gokwe.
“We are also identifying 10 talented acts from across Gokwe who will be included as supporting acts,” he said.
He has also revealed he worked with Obert Chari on the title song, ‘Nyasha DzeGokwe.’
Chivaviro has also promised to include two more surprise collaborations with prominent artists on the album.
He has vowed to tell the Gokwe story in his 22nd book set to be launched on the same day as the new album.
Blessing Shumba and Kudzi Nyakudya have been announced as part of the acts at the album launch.
Some of the names that made it out of Gokwe include Simba Bhora goalkeepers’ coach Energy ‘Gokwe’ Murambadoro, 2018 Soccer Star of the Year Rodwell Chinyengetere and adventurous cyclist Vusumuzi Mnkandla.
