THE upgrade of Golden Valley-Sanyati-Nembudziya Road has begun, with contractors working on regravelling the damaged sections between Munyati Bridge and Kadoma.
Almost 40 kilometres of the Golden Valley-Sanyati stretch was fully tarred and opened to traffic last year. This week, contractors are regravelling and compacting the remaining sections to ease movement as they prepare to asphalt the rest of the road.
Due to heavy rains experienced across the country this season, this stretch had become impassable with numerous large potholes. In a telephone interview, provincial roads engineer Simbarashe Gomo said the current work was part of major efforts to tar the road.
He explained that the upgraded road would significantly reduce travel time between Sanyati and Gokwe North, boosting inter-provincial trade between Mashonaland West and the Midlands.
Sanyati RDC chief executive officer, Mr Achim Shadaya, stated that the development had also attracted new investments.
“We have seen increased business from outsiders as the road upgrade proceeds. The upgrade has also led many to acquire residential stands,” he said.
