GOVERNMENT has hailed the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) for organising national choral, percussion and Jikinya dance competitions, saying the events promote Zimbabwean culture and align with the Heritage-Based Curriculum (HBC).

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Moses Mhike, said the competitions provide learners with an opportunity to showcase their talents while promoting the preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of this year’s competitions at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre yesterday, Thursday, Mr Mhike said Government would continue supporting schools participating in cultural programmes.

“We are excited about the competition being run by Naph. This is part of our culture and the HBC. We will continue supporting our schools on such programmes,” he said.

Mr Mhike said the competitions should not be viewed solely as a contest for honours, but also as a platform for preserving and passing on Zimbabwean traditions to younger generations.

He said exposing learners to cultural activities at an early age helps them identify and develop their talents while fostering an appreciation of the country’s diverse cultural heritage.

The annual competitions bring together primary school learners from across the country to showcase their abilities in choral music, percussion and traditional dance.
