In a move to address the ongoing challenge of illegal settlements, the Government has established an Interministerial Committee tasked with finding a lasting solution to the issue.
The announcement was made this afternoon by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, during the Post Cabinet Media Briefing.
Dr Muswere reported that Cabinet had received an update on the status of families recently evicted from Willdale Farm in Mt. Hampden, Zvimba District.
He assured the public that emergency measures have already been taken to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the evictions.
He revealed that the Interministerial Committee will bring together key ministries, including Local Government and Public Works; Primary and Secondary Education; Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development; Health and Child Care; Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage; Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare; National Housing and Social Amenities; and Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
“The committee has been mandated to thoroughly examine the situation and recommend comprehensive, sustainable solutions to the problem of illegal settlements,” said Dr Muswere.
The committee’s work is expected to ensure that the needs of affected families are met, while also addressing the root causes of illegal land occupation and preventing future occurrences.
The Government’s commitment to resolving the matter underscores its dedication to upholding the rule of law, protecting vulnerable communities, and promoting orderly urban and rural development across Zimbabwe.
