GOVERNMENT has signed an agreement with local firm Henna Concession to rehabilitate the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway and upgrade Nyamapanda Border Post, marking a major step towards commencement of the critical infrastructure project.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe finalised the agreement this week, setting in motion the preliminary stages of the upgrade of the vital trade corridor.

The project will see the complete overhaul of the highway, including the dualisation of key urban sections in Harare and construction of a new toll plaza along the route.

Simultaneously, work will also commence on modernisation of the Nyamapanda Border Post to streamline cross-border traffic.

In a move that will benefit local residents, the Government plans to establish a Vehicle Inspectorate Department depot at the border, eliminating the need for residents to travel to Murehwa for vehicle licensing and inspections.

Construction of the highway is expected to begin at the intersection of ED Mnangagwa Way and Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.
