A 65-year-old Greendale man lost US$20 000 to thieves in his parked car on Wednesday.

Hebert Ngwenduna parked his Toyota GD6 at a restaurant along Suffolk Road in Avondale.

Hebert went inside the restaurant for a meeting, leaving everything intact.

After about two hours, his car alarm system went off, and he got out of the restaurant to check.

He discovered that the car’s quarter glass was smashed and his bag containing the money had been stolen.

It was established, through CCTV footage, that two people who were driving a black Nissan Xtrail, registration number not captured, parked behind the complainant’s vehicle, disembarked from their vehicle, proceeded to the complainant’s car, broke the car quarter glass and stole the bag and went away.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.

“Police are investigating a theft from car case in Avondale. Total value stolen is US$20 000 and nothing has been recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
