GUSPY Warrior has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late music icon, James Chimombe, crediting the legend’s timeless music for shaping his own artistic journey.

Inspired by Chimombe’s timeless classic “Cecilia,” the Zimdancehall musician released his new song ‘Vasiye Vakadaro.’

Guspy Warrior said that his love for Chimombe’s music began through his father, who introduced him to the late star’s classic songs, at a young age.

“My dad introduced me to the music of the late legend James Chimombe and since then I have always loved his music dearly.

“I remember listening to his vinyl record, which had Cecilia as my favourite, Jemedza, Zvaitika, among some of his classics songs.

“Those songs still play in my head rent free and he has had a tremendous impact on my music.

“To think that he passed in the year that I was born is mind blowing. I choose to celebrate him and pay my respects on my new single ‘Vasiye Vakadaro.’”

Guspy Warrior has chosen to officially launch the song live in Chivhu on Saturday.

Chimombe, who born in 1951, died in 1990.

His career included stints with OK Success, the Acid Band, the Ocean City Band, and the Huchi Band.

“To his family, thank you for withholding his legacy and it’s up to us musicians to celebrate our own.

“May your soul continue to rest in peace sir, we thank you nenhaka yamakatisiira and you are greatly missed.”
