A 20-YEAR-OLD woman died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance in the Gweru Central Business District on Monday.
Identified as Tanaka Mutukwa, the woman was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital but sadly passed on while receiving treatment.
Hospital Superintendent Dr Fabian Mashingaidze confirmed the death. “All we know is that we have a female patient who was brought in for treatment and unfortunately passed on. We cannot give further information at the moment before results from a scheduled post-mortem,” he said.
Sources told this publication that Tanaka had been in a relationship with a local car dealer who reportedly impregnated her but refused to take responsibility. Heartbroken, she allegedly consumed a harmful substance, prompting the rushed hospital visit.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and the cause of death will be confirmed after post-mortem results are released.
