THREE suspected illegal foreign currency dealers were arrested in Central Harare during a police operation targeting illicit cash trading.
Police recovered US$46,200.
Prince Maravanyika (32), Abisha Hozheri (33) and Moses Mazurura (25) appeared in court yesterday and were each granted US$200 bail by Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa.
The court heard that on Monday, detectives from the CID Asset Forfeiture Unit were on an operation targeting illegal cash dealings.
They received information that the three were exchanging large sums of United States dollars for Zimbabwe Gold currency, without the approval of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
Maravanyika was arrested at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda Street and Speke Avenue, where he was allegedly found dealing in foreign currency.
Police recovered US$5,200 and two point-of-sale machines from him. In a separate incident, at the corner of Mbuya Nehanda and Albion Street, Hozheri and Mazurura were also arrested for similar offences.
Authorities recovered US$41,020 and a point-of-sale machine from the pair.
The State alleges that the accused were using proceeds of crime and engaging in unauthorised currency trading in contravention of exchange control regulations.
