The District Development Office for Harare Metropolitan Province in the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, has roped in Harare City Council junior councillors and the Adult Rape Clinic (ARC)) in the fight against sexual and gender violence.
Speaking at the breaking the silence: Empowering Youth Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence event organised by the ministry and the Adult Rape Clinic at the mayoral mansion on Tuesday, the district development officer in the ministry, Mr Albert Mutasa, implored the junior councillors to share information on SGBV in their communities during this festive season.
“ARC has played a huge role. When we were discussing with them, they saw it necessary to have junior councillors on board so that we could work with them to fight against this problem,” he said.
“As the year ends, let’s work together with junior councillors. As you go for the holidays, you go with something in terms of information so that you can share it wisely with your communities, your families, friends and colleagues at school,” he said.
