The City of Harare has begun the Round 3 Novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type 2 (nOPV2) subnational vaccination campaign, which started on Tuesday and ends on Friday this week.
The campaign is targeting 227 246 children under the age of five, including newborns, with health authorities aiming to achieve 95 percent coverage.
Vaccination teams will administer the vaccine through door-to-door visits, mobile vaccination sites and static health facilities across the city.
Health officials have urged parents and guardians to ensure that all eligible children receive the vaccine, regardless of their previous vaccination status, as part of efforts to strengthen protection against poliovirus.
The campaign forms part of Zimbabwe’s ongoing public health response to prevent the spread of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 and protect children from paralysis caused by polio.
