A 20-year-old Harare woman from Garikai Whitecliff North appeared in court on allegations of assisting her husband to rape her 10-year-old sister before collecting the blood for suspected rituals.
The woman and her husband, who is 22, were being jointly charged on two counts of rape when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.
They were remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The court heard that on August 10, 2026, the complainant proceeded to Whitecliff for holiday.
After a week, the complainant was sleeping with her sister’s son when her brother-in-law entered the room while her sister locked the door from outside and went away, leaving her with her husband.
It is alleged that the brother-in-law then raped the complainant. After the act, the brother-in-law allegedly produced a knife and threatened the complainant with it.
He then took a container and collected the blood that was coming out of the complainant’s private parts.
The complainant’s sister then came back in the morning and opened the door and, together with her husband, took the bottle containing the blood to an unknown place.
The court heard that on the following day, in August 2026, the brother-in-law went into the room where the complainant was and he phoned his wife to lock the door from outside while he raped the complainant again.
On September 15, 2026, the complainant revealed the matter to her grandmother, who helped her to report the two to the police, leading to their arrest.
The complainant was referred to the hospital for medical examinations and the completed medical report may be produced in court as an exhibit.
