A NKETA woman stumbled upon a body floating in Phekiwe River, prompting a police appeal for help in identifying the deceased.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.
“Police confirms receiving a case of sudden death which occurred at Phekiwe River, Bulawayo,” she said.
On 17 November 2025, at around 7AM, a 37 year old woman was heading to her field when she noticed something unusual drifting on the river’s surface.
When she looked closer, she realised it was a human body.
“She spotted the body of an unknown deceased floating on top of water in Phekiwe River. She then made a police report,” said Insp Msebele.
“The now deceased was putting on a black T shirt, coffee track pant, blue short, had a heart shaped tattoo on the left arm and had black short hair.”
Insp Msebele said the body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for post mortem.
She urged the public to assist in identifying the body. “We are appealing to members of the public with a missing relative matching the above description to contact ZRP Nkulumane or visit United Bulawayo Hospital for body identification,” said Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
