HERENTALS Queens are on the brink of winning their fourth consecutive Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League title, needing just a point from their final three games.

The reigning champions secured a narrow win over major rivals 1-0 win over Chapungu Queens, with Natasha Benza scoring the decisive goal at Gwanzura yesterday.

Herentals have been the dominant force in local women’s football and victory over a Chapungu outfit who have been hot in pursuit left them on the cusp of glory again.

The Student Queens now need to pick that one point from their three remaining games and could actually wrap it up when they face lowly Cranborne Royals this weekend.

Chapungu needed to win yesterday’s top of the table showdown in order to their tally to 65 points.

It is the same number of points that Herentals have after yesterday’s triumph.

Instead Chapungu Queens struggled to match Vagoni Basa’s who have now taken their cushion at the top to six points.

Their closest rivals, Black Rhinos and Chapungu have only two more games to play and it looks like Herentals will, for the fourth season running, be clipping the championship.

Dedza was happy to have overcome one of their biggest challengers.

“This was a tight match and we knew we needed to win it at all costs.

He added: We knew if we lost it, meant we would have pressure going into the last three games of the season.

“Even a draw wasn’t going to sit well with us. I salute my girls for a job well done.

“We played with a lot of attacking conviction and we should have won by a wider margin.

“We defended gallantly and dominated the midfield like nobody’s business. We now need just a point and we reach Canaan again.

“We are very happy. We can’t fail to pick a point in three games. That’s impossible. We are Herentals Queens like I always say.”

The club’s dominance caught the eye of neutrals including Kirytan Restaurant owner Maria Rollings who immediately entered an agreement with the team’s marketing department to be their kit partners starting now.

Rollings said: “We can confirm that we will be providing the kit for Herentals Queens in all their future assignments.

“We are just tying the loose ends to the agreement but I can tell you that we are almost done with everything.

“The club will collect their first consignment this coming weekend and we will move from there. We want to partner the team for a long-term and we are happy all is on course for that.”

Benza, whose solitary goal won the match said: “I am definitely over the moon. We needed to win this one and the way we did it was fantastic.

“We just have to stay focused and get the maximum points in our remaining games. There are no more questions about whether we will win the title or not.”
