Highlanders Football Club has announced that it has received the second tranche of US$250 000 from businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, part of the US$1 million donation he pledged to support the club during the 2025 season.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Bulawayo giants confirmed that the latest disbursement brings the total amount received so far to US$500 000. The money has been deposited into a trust account through the club’s curator.
According to the club, the funds have been used mainly to cater for players’ welfare, including winning bonuses, travel expenses, and match allowances. Additionally, part of the money is being channelled towards upgrading the training pitches and constructing a perimeter wall at the Highlanders clubhouse.
“The Club would like to greatly appreciate the generosity and support from Sir Chivayo. The club believes this will improve the mood in the team and encourage better performances within the team,” read the statement signed by club executive chairman, Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe.
Highlanders expressed gratitude for the continued backing, saying they look forward to receiving the remaining portion of the pledged funds.
