HOCKEY Association of Zimbabwe secretary-general Sarah Bennett says the recognition of local officials by the international federation demonstrates that they are meeting global benchmarks.
This follows the promotion of Tafadzwa Makamure to the FIH Technical Official – International Panel, and Munashe Mashoko being upgraded to the FIH Outdoor Umpire – Centre Panel by the International Hockey Federation.
HAZ announced the appointments this week and Bennett said it places the two among the top officials on the international stage.
“We are delighted by the appointments of Tafadzwa Makamure to the FIH Technical Official – International Panel and Munashe Mashoko to the FIH Outdoor Umpire – Centre Panel.
“From a Zimbabwean hockey perspective, this is a proud moment. It demonstrates that our officials are meeting international benchmarks and that Zimbabwe continues to contribute meaningfully to the global hockey community.
“Their achievements enhance the reputation of our federation and serve as inspiration to young officials coming through our structures.
“We congratulate both of them and wish them continued success as they carry our flag onto the international stage.”
Bennett, herself has made remarkable strides as a technical official on the international stage, and she added the promotion opens doors to high-profile global events.
“These promotions are not only well deserved, but they also reflect years of hard work, commitment, and consistent excellence in officiating.
“For Tafadzwa and Munashe personally, this recognition places them among the top tier of international officials.
“It opens the door to officiating at high-profile global tournaments and further developing their careers at the highest level of the sport.
“Tafadzwa has just received her international badge as a Technical Official.
“Munashe had his international badge and now promoted to the central panel which is massive for his development,” Bennett said.
Makamure, who has been officiating at national and regional level, said being trusted by FIH is motivating.
“This appointment means everything to me. It represents years of dedication, sacrifice and love for hockey.
“Being trusted by the International Hockey Federation is both humbling and deeply motivating, and it affirms that the journey has truly been worth it,” said Makamure.
She is looking forward to learning and working alongside experienced international officials.
“I am most looking forward to learning at a high level, working alongside experienced international officials such as Sarah Bennett and Kays Kanyangarara, who are the most experienced technical officials we have here in Zimbabwe and are a part of the leading panel.
“I am looking forward to giving back to the sport that has shaped me while continuing to grow both personally and professionally,” said Makamure.
Bennett and Kanyangarara have officiated at high-profile events such as the Olympic Games, raising the country’s flag at the global stage.
