Homba Mazaleni’s captivating audition video captures attention

Eastern Cape content creator and biokineticist Homba Mazaleni is quickly becoming one of the standout names in the 2026 Top Billing presenter search after her audition video captured the attention of thousands online.

Mazaleni shared her polished 89-second audition clip on TikTok on May 25, showcasing the kind of glamour, confidence and storytelling that has long defined the iconic lifestyle show.

Featuring cinematic drone shots, scenic travel visuals and a smooth walk-and-talk delivery style, the video immediately drew praise from social media users, who described her presentation as “natural,” “authentic” and “made for television.”

The audition comes as producers search for fresh presenting talent following Top Billing’s return to SABC 3 earlier this year.

Entries for the nationwide presenter search officially opened in May, with hopefuls encouraged to submit short audition videos using the hashtags #TopBillingAudition and #TopBillingPresenterSearch before the June 30 deadline.

Mazaleni’s audition quickly stood out online, with many viewers declaring that producers had already found their next presenter.

Some commenters jokingly urged the show to “stop the search,” while others praised the effortless confidence she displayed on camera.

Actress and media personality Pearl Modiadie was among those who publicly showed support for the aspiring presenter.

“Homba Mazaleni for Top Billing,” she said.

While the audition introduced some viewers to Mazaleni for the first time, she is no stranger to the spotlight.

She previously finished in the Top 5 of the Miss South Africa 2023 competition.

Her pageant experience appears to have translated seamlessly into television-ready poise, with many social media users highlighting her calm delivery and on-screen presence.

The overwhelming reaction to her video has also sparked broader conversations about the future of television presenting in the digital age.

Unlike traditional audition tapes that rely heavily on scripted delivery, viewers praised Mazaleni’s authenticity and relaxed storytelling style — qualities many believe modern audiences connect with more strongly. According to the presenter search guidelines, shortlisted candidates will be invited to in-person auditions later this year before finalists are selected. Producers previously stated that they are looking for entrants who are authentic, confident and able to connect naturally with viewers.

With weeks still left before entries close, Mazaleni has already emerged as one of the competition’s early favourites and, if social media reactions are anything to go by, many South Africans believe she already looks right at home on the Top Billing stage. – IOL
