A 60-YEAR-OLD Jotsholo man will spend the next two decades behind bars after he pounced on a helpless 14-year-old girl who had been left home alone.
The Hwange Magistrates’ Court showed no mercy to the elderly sex pest and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment for the horrific abuse of a minor.
The shocking incident occurred on the morning of 13 September 2025 at around 7AM.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the predator took advantage of the fact that the girl was alone at the residence. He entered the home and cunningly inquired about the mother’s whereabouts to ensure the coast was clear.
Once he confirmed she was unprotected he turned violent.
The NPAZ revealed that the offender “forcefully subdued and raped the child” and then tried to silence her by threatening her with violence if she dared to disclose the incident.
But the brave girl refused to keep the dirty secret.
She later went to her grandmother’s house where she found her mother and revealed the heartbreaking ordeal. She was immediately taken to St. Luke’s
Hospital for medical treatment and the matter was reported to the police.
In a statement following the conviction the NPAZ emphasized that the justice system will not treat child abusers with kid gloves.
“Courts will continue to impose deterrent sentences to protect minors and uphold the rule of law,” the statement read.
The authority called on the public to stop protecting abusers and help clean up society.
“Communities are urged to break the silence, report abuse promptly, and stand united in safeguarding children from predators,” the NPAZ said.
