FIVE people cheated death on Monday morning when two cars collided head on in a terrifying smash along the Harare- Bulawayo Highwau near Kwekwe.
The accident, which happened at the 210km peg around 8am, left twisted metal scattered across the road and motorists scrambling to assist the injured.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the crash was caused by human error.
“It is alleged that Collen Mugodi aged 48 of Mbizo in Kwekwe was driving a Honda Freed with seven passengers on board towards Harare,” said Insp Mahoko.
“On approaching the 210 kilometre peg, Mugodi attempted to overtake another vehicle. During the process he collided head on with a Honda Fit that was travelling in the opposite direction.”
The Honda Fit was being driven by Knowledge Luposa (25) of Amaveni, Kwekwe. He had five passengers with him at the time.
Insp Mahoko said Luposa and four of his passengers sustained injuries ranging from cuts to suspected fractures. They were rushed to Kwekwe District
Hospital where they are receiving treatment. Authorities said Mugodi and his passengers also suffered minor injuries but were able to walk away from the scene.
