UNITED Kingdom-based actress, brand strategist and director of ceremonies Rumbidzai “Miss Rue” Musarurwa, says she is living her dream.
From her early days in Highfield, Harare, working with theatre companies, she has transitioned into film and she is now carving out a successful career as a director of ceremonies in the UK.
At the weekend, she was among the key personalities at the annual ZimFest music jamboree held at Delapré Abbey in Northamptonshire, England.
Superstar Jah Prayzah headlined the festival, while Sulumani Chimbetu, Tamy Moyo, Delroy Shewe, Junior Spragga and Tsungai Tsikirai also performed. Popular hypeman DJ Fantan and chief selector DJ Levels represented Chillspot Family.
Miss Rue was appointed by Crea8tive Entertainment as one of the event’s directors of ceremonies.
“I took part in ZimFest for the second time in this role after making my debut in 2025,” Miss Rue said.
“The feedback was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
“To be honest, I can’t thank the organisers enough for the sterling job they did.
“It was epic from start to finish, and I am looking forward to cementing my name as a director of ceremonies.”
Miss Rue has since established herself as one of the sought-after personalities in the entertainment industry.
She has built a reputation as an actress, although hosting entertainment events had always been another gift she possessed.
“In fact, I had always been sitting on this talent, but now I am making a living from it in Europe.
“I have always believed in myself and knew that one day I would make it as an actress, and I am proud that dream is becoming a reality.
“I have worked with many talented people, especially Jah Hanief, a popular MC, with whom I worked at the 2026 ZimFest. It was wonderful to see Zimbabweans enjoying themselves at the festival, which also brings together Africans living in the UK.”
Born in Harare and raised in Highfield, Miss Rue recalled how performing before large crowds from a young age helped shape her confidence and versatility.
“I have always loved performing in front of large audiences since my days in Highfield.
“After completing my O-Levels, I went straight into acting because it has always been my passion.
“I worked with several theatre companies, including Shooting Stars Performing Arts under Patrick Tembo, who introduced me to theatre.
“In theatre there are no retakes because you perform before a live audience, so one must fully understand and interpret the script.”
She also worked with Jasen Mphepo under Patsime Trust, where she appeared in several productions, including the popular play The Father.
Miss Rue also worked with theatre guru Peter Churu and featured in several productions alongside students from the University of Zimbabwe Theatre Arts programme.
“One of the plays we produced around 2014 was Tokwe Mukosi,” she recalled. She also worked under the late Walter Mparutsa during the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA).
Determined to sharpen her craft, Miss Rue later travelled to China to study theatre and filmmaking.
However, she returned to Zimbabwe following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
